Tennis star Sumit Nagal achieved the best ranking

New Delhi: Indian tennis star Sumit Nagal on Monday achieved a career-best ranking of 95th as he moved up two places in the ATP rankings ahead of the ATP 250 Marrakesh. In February, Nagal entered the top 100 when he became world No. 97 in men’s singles after winning the Chennai Open title.

Then, he made an impressive debut at the Miami Open and strengthened his position by defeating Gabriel Diallo in straight sets 7-6(3), 6-2 during the qualifiers.

Nagal next lost to Coleman Wong in the qualifying round. However, on the basis of his performance he reached number 92 in the rankings. Nagal got a place in the main draw after Rafael Nadal withdrew in Indian Wells. However, he was not successful in capitalizing on this opportunity and had to face defeat against Milos Raonic.

When Nagal reached the second round of the Australian Open in January, he broke into the top 100 of the ATP rankings. However, he then lost the Bengaluru Open against Stefano Napolitano.

After this he lost his rhythm for some time. Nagal fell out of the top 100 after losing against Nicky Poonacha in the Pune ATP Challenger pre-quarterfinals.

Despite all these difficulties, Nagal managed to climb two places to achieve his career-best ranking of 95th in the world. This feat comes ahead of his entry into the ATP 250 Marrakech tournament.

Sumit Nagal will play against world number 99 Corentin Moutet in the opening round of the tournament on Tuesday.
