Srinagar: The Administrative Council (AC) of Jammu and Kashmir, which met here under the chairmanship of Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, approved the creation of ‘Jammu and Kashmir Sports Cadre’ under the administrative control of the Youth Services and Sports Department. Under this, along with creation of 235 posts, it will also be used for appointment of outstanding sportspersons, which includes 10 gazetted posts.
With this decision, the process of recruitment of excellent players will begin, which has been entangled in various legal and procedural issues for the last few years. The new rules have been prepared with a view to motivate the youth for sports activities and encourage excellent players. The recognition of players from Jammu and Kashmir at national and international levels in various sports categories is a testament to the efforts of the Government to rejuvenate sports activities in the Union Territory.
The government is attempting to make these appointments annual so as to provide an enabling environment for the promotion of sports in Jammu and Kashmir. Furthermore, appointing outstanding players as mentors will boost the training and development process of the youth and increase their participation in local, national and worldwide competitions. The meeting was attended by Advisor to Lieutenant Governor Rajiv Rai Bhatnagar, Chief Secretary of Jammu and Kashmir Dr. Arun Kumar Mehta and Principal Secretary to Lieutenant Governor Dr. Mandeep Kumar Bhandari.
