This time deadly cold hits North India, warning of heavy rain in next 72 hours
Weather Forecast: Monsoon is now on the verge of ending, which gave a little more rain than normal this time. Now the country is preparing for winter. There is a possibility of severe cold this year. India Meteorological Department has indicated that La Nina conditions may arise during October-November. The World Meteorological Organization also says that by the end of the year there is a 60 percent chance that La Nina will become stronger, due to which the northern parts of the country may be colder than normal.
According to the report of Times of India, IMD has indicated that the cold may be intense this time in Delhi-NCR and North Western region. IMD chief Mrityunjay Mohapatra said, “There is a 71 percent chance that La Nina conditions will occur during October-November. “In years when La Nina is active, temperatures in North and North-West India go below normal.”

He also said that one may have to face cold wave in winter, but its severity can be assessed later because at present the La Nina situation is weak. There will be more clarity about this in January or February. WMO says, “There is a 60 percent chance that La Nina will increase in strength between October 2024 and February 2025, and reactivation of El Nino is unlikely during this period.” La Nina means a drop in sea surface temperatures in the Pacific Ocean, which affects global atmospheric patterns such as wind, pressure and precipitation.

Heavy rain alert for next 72 hours
Monsoon seems to be active once again in some states of the country, because low pressure cyclonic circulation still persists in the Bay of Bengal. Due to its effect, there may be a possibility of cyclonic storm in coastal areas. In the first week of October, winds are expected to blow at a speed of 30 to 40 kilometers per hour in many states, and heavy rains may also occur. However, the monsoon has completely ended in the capital Delhi, due to which the Meteorological Department has predicted the temperature to increase here. According to the Meteorological Department, there is a possibility of heavy rain in West Bengal, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Rajasthan, Jharkhand, Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, hilly areas of Jammu and Kashmir, Assam, Meghalaya, Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Karnataka during the first week of October. Winds may blow at a speed of 30 to 40 kilometers per hour in Bihar, while heavy rain is expected in Assam and Meghalaya on October 2 and 3.
Rain alert has also been issued in Nagaland, Mizoram, Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur, and Tripura from 2 to 4 October. Due to heavy rains in Nepal, 12 districts of Bihar have been affected by floods, as Gandak and Kosi rivers are flowing above the danger mark.
