Turkey’s defense minister shared a video on Sunday showing NATO-led KFOR peacekeeper badged soldiers leaving Turkey and then arriving in Kosovo.

Istanbul. A Turkish commando battalion has arrived in Kosovo at the request of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) to help quell violence in the Balkan country. Turkey’s defense minister shared a video on Sunday showing NATO-led KFOR peacekeeper badged soldiers leaving Turkey and then arriving in Kosovo. 30 international soldiers, including 11 Italian and 19 Hungarian, were injured in ethnic violence with Serbs on Monday.

Some of these soldiers have suffered fractures and some have suffered burn injuries after being hit by a locally improvised explosive device (IED). Significantly, the violence started when candidates of Albanian origin won a landslide victory after the boycott of the Serb ethnic group and Serbs protested when they went to the municipal building to take office. A Turkish Defense Ministry official told on condition of anonymity last week that about 500 soldiers of his country would be deployed in Kosovo.
