Uncontrolled car hits many pedestrians in Japan, 9 injured
Tokyo (Uttam Hindu News): On Tuesday, a car hit several people walking on foot in Fukuoka, Japan’s south-western province. At least 9 people were injured in this accident. The car went out of control and started moving in the opposite direction of the road and hit several people, Xinhua news agency quoted the prefectural police as saying.
The nine injured, including seven high school students, an adult male and a driver, were sent to hospital. The accident occurred around 8 a.m. on Prefectural Road, about 100 meters west of Umi Station on the JR Kashi Line. According to nearby residents, the road is used as a transit route for a high school, and the seven injured students were from Fukuoka Prefectural Umi Commercial High School. After this accident, classes were canceled in the school.
After the accident, aerial footage from national broadcaster NHK showed damage to the front of the car, which came to rest after hitting a wall.
According to the police, the 66-year-old driver was arrested on the spot for rash and negligent driving. He is being given medical treatment.
