Washington (Uttam Hindu News): Several US lawmakers have urged the Biden administration not to recognize Pakistan’s election results until alleged irregularities are investigated. This has been said in the media report.
A US State Department spokesperson expressed concern over allegations of interference in the election process, saying in a statement on Friday, “Claims of interference or fraud should be fully investigated.”
“We join with credible international and local election observers in their assessment that these elections involved unreasonable restrictions on freedom of expression and peaceful assembly,” the statement said.
House Foreign Affairs Committee Chairman Michael McCaul and ranking member Gregory Meeks said that given recent strong statements by other prominent lawmakers in support of Pakistani democracy, we call on the Biden administration and Congress to investigate vote-counting irregularities and ballot box fraud, The News reported. Congressman Brad Sherman, a senior member of the powerful House Foreign Affairs Committee, said, “Press organizations in Pakistan should be free to report vote tabulations and there should be no unreasonable delays in announcing the results.”
