The missile, also known as VSHORADS, has been indigenously designed and developed by DRDO’s Research Center Imarat (RCI) in collaboration with other DRDO laboratories and Indian industry partners. It is being told that missiles, drones or helicopters coming from the enemy side can be targeted with this air defense system. This defense system is portable, that is, it can be taken anywhere comfortably and missiles can be fired. It can be deployed comfortably in mountains, glaciers and deserts. That is, India’s air defense system can be deployed comfortably on the border of China and Pakistan.

According to the information, the weight of Very Short Range Air Defense System is only 20 kg. In January 2023, the Defense Acquisition Council (DAC) approved the procurement of Very Short Range Air Defense System or VSHORAD (IR Homing) missile systems. India and China have been locked in a tense military standoff along the LAC since May 2020. In December last year, soldiers from both sides clashed with each other at Tawang in Arunachal. In September last year, the DRDO test-fired the VSHORADS missile from a ground-based portable launcher at the Integrated Test Range at Chandipur off the coast of Odisha.
