An inter-ministerial working group in charge of implementing India’s rights under the Indus Water Treaty in a meeting stressed the importance of completing several hydroelectric projects in Jammu and Kashmir to improve the country’s use of its river water rights. The meeting took place months after India gave Pakistan an ultimatum to amend the treaty and was attended by high-ranking officials including Deputy NSA Vikram Misri.

A second meeting has been held in Jammu and Kashmir to ensure the exercise of its rights under the Indus Water Treaty. The meeting was chaired by India’s Deputy National Security Advisor Vikram Misri. He reviewed the progress of hydro power in the state. In the meeting, J&K Vidyut Vikas Nigam said that India has made progress in many areas. The department has emphasized on completing the work on time.
