Winning Asia Cup is important to maintain momentum before World Cup: Gill – Dainik Savera Times

Colombo: India opener Shubhman Gill said it is important to register a win in the Asia Cup final against Sri Lanka on Sunday as it will keep the team in good shape ahead of the World Cup starting next month. Gill said that winning the Asia Cup will keep the team full of confidence. “It is very important for us to win the Asia Cup final because we have to make a habit of winning,” he said in the press conference after the Super Four match against Bangladesh on Friday night.
It is important to get into form at the right time and find momentum at the right time. Gill said, “It is important to continue the winning streak because losing one or two matches can create pressure. Winning the title here will maintain our momentum and increase our confidence before the World Cup. India lost the match by six runs on Friday in which Gill played a century.
“I don’t think we’ve lost any momentum,” he said. I think we allowed Bangladesh’s lower order batsmen to score 10-15 extra runs. But apart from that we played good cricket. Gill said, “But these things keep happening on wickets like this. I hope that we will learn from these things here and take advantage of them in the Asia Cup final and the World Cup.
He said that the Sri Lankan team is playing good cricket and India will have to show its best game to defeat them in the final. “I think they are in great shape,” Gill said. The way they won the last match against Pakistan, it was great to see. The opening batsman said, “We have to give our 100 percent to defeat them. We have to perform our best.
He also said that playing on slow pitches in the Asia Cup before the World Cup will keep India in good shape. Gill said, “It is a good practice for the batsmen and bowlers because in India we usually play on such pitches. Playing under pressure on such wickets against good teams will definitely help us in the World Cup.
