On 1 November 2007, the United Nations General Assembly passed a resolution to celebrate World Autism Awareness Day. It was adopted by the United Nations General Assembly on 18 December 2007. Although it is being celebrated since the year 2012.

According to the census of 2011, there were 7,862, 921 children in India who were disabled. Out of which 5,95, 089 children were mentally challenged. A study revealed that one out of every 66 children in India is suffering from autism. Although the number of people suffering from autism in India has increased since last decade. There is a lot of lack of awareness among people about autism.
