ISF MLA challenges Abhishek in Diamond Harbor URL text

Diamond Harbour. Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s nephew and Trinamool Congress MP Abhishek Banerjee is going to face a big challenge this time from his parliamentary constituency Diamond Harbor seat. Naushad Siddiqui of the Indian Secular Front (ISF), who won from the Muslim-dominated area in the 2021 assembly elections, announced to contest from this Lok Sabha seat, but later the ISF has fielded Manju Laskar from here. Naushad did not challenge just like that, he has a lot of influence among the Muslim community. Abhishek Banerjee has been elected MP from Diamond Harbor seat of South 24 Parganas district since 2014. This is a Muslim dominated area where Trinamool Congress has always dominated. Despite this, in the 2021 assembly elections, Siddiqui gave a big blow to the ruling TMC by winning the election from Bhangar seat of the district. Bhangar assembly seat may not be a part of Diamond Harbor Lok Sabha seat, but it is in South 24 Parganas district where the total Muslim population is more than 35 percent. Trinamool took power in West Bengal in 2011, ending the 34-year-long rule of the Left Front government in West Bengal. From then till now the party has had almost a monopoly on the Muslim vote bank of the state. According to the 2011 census, there are 27.01 percent Muslims in the state. However, in the recent times since the 2021 assembly elections, the Muslim population in many parts of the state has given a big blow to Trinamool. In February this year, Trinamool was defeated in the Sagardighi assembly by-election of Murshidabad. The Muslim population in this seat is 66.28 percent. Talking about the population of Diamond Harbor Lok Sabha seat, 52 percent of the voters here are Muslims, who have continuously supported Abhishek Banerjee since 2014. However, Naushad Siddiqui’s influence has increased among this section. Therefore, ISF from Diamond Harbor can become a problem for Trinamool. Abhishek Banerjee had won the 2014 elections from this seat by a margin of more than 70 thousand votes, after which in 2019 he won this seat again by taking a lead of 3.2 lakh votes. On the other hand, India Secular Front (ISF) came into existence for the first time with the 2021 assembly elections. Naushad Siddiqui made his power felt by winning in the very first election. Maulana Pirzada Abbas Siddiqui, elder brother of Naushad and the famous Furfura Sharif Mosque of Hooghly district, also has a good influence. This mosque is said to be the most effective place of worship for Muslims. In 2021, ISF had contested the elections in alliance with the Left Front and Congress. This time Naushad’s challenge is in the headlines in the Lok Sabha elections.
