Online Gaming Vs OTT Spend: Consumers spend less than Rs 100 on online gaming and less than Rs 200-400 on over-the-top (OTT) platforms every month, according to a report by technology and policy research firm Astha Centre.
According to a survey published in a paper by the Indian Institute of Management-Ahmedabad (IIM-A), users spend a maximum of 194 minutes per day on social media, 46 minutes on online gaming and 44 minutes on OTT.
The report took the views of 2,000 people from Delhi NCR, Bengaluru, Chennai, Mumbai, Kolkata, Patna, Mysore, Lucknow, Jaipur, and Bhopal. Apart from this, this report is based on in-app data of more than 20.6 lakh users in 143 mobile applications.
According to the report, the concern of policy makers regarding online gaming is the time spent by the users and the money spent.
The report comes after the GST Council meeting, in which the GST levied on the online gaming industry has been changed from 18 per cent to 28 per cent on Gross Gaming Revenue (GGR). Due to this, the expenditure of the industry on GST has increased by 350 to 400 percent.
According to the survey, a 30 percent increase in the participation fee for an online game can lead to a 71 percent drop in engagement.
