Karachi: Former Australian all-rounder Shane Watson has not yet taken a decision on becoming the head coach of Pakistan, although the Pakistan Cricket Board has accepted his fee demand.
According to board sources, Watson has asked for 20 lakh dollars annually, which is approximately Rs 400 crore per month. This will be the highest fee for a foreign coach in Pakistan.
Former Pakistan foreign coaches Richard Pybus, Bob Woolmer, Geoff Lawson, Dave Whatmore, Grant Bradburn and Mickey Arthur were paid much less than this.
The source said, “Watson has family in Australia and also has a contract with the American Major League.” He is considering all options as the board wants him to spend maximum time in Pakistan and develop players at the domestic level.” He said Watson is taking time to sign the contract because there are tensions in the PCB and in the coaching staff. Changes are taking place continuously.
Watson is currently the coach of Quetta Gladiators in the Pakistan Super League. He has also coached in the Indian Premier League but has no experience at the international level.
