The Delhi High Court has issued summons to Google LLC and several entities running channels on YouTube in a case filed by Abhishek Bachchan for allegedly spreading fake news about his daughter’s health. Issuing interim instructions, the court said that Google LLC is duty-bound in law to ensure strict compliance of the entire statutory system related to intermediaries, which includes IT Rules 2021.

A YouTube channel raised rumors about the health of Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and Abhishek Bachchan’s only daughter Aaradhya Bachchan, seeing which the Bachchan family got very angry and now they have decided to take strict steps. The Bachchan family has filed a petition in the Delhi High Court asking for action against the YouTube channel, which ran fake news about the health of baby Aaradhya. Hearing on this petition of Aaradhya Bachchan took place today. A single judge bench of Justice C Harishankar heard the matter. When the hearing of the case started, Justice C Harishankar’s bench asked the channel that why don’t you have a policy to deal with such cases. The court said that there is something wrong with YouTube’s zero tolerance policy. The court told the advocate appearing on behalf of the YouTube channel that you are just giving information and you have nothing to do with its truth. The court said, this is not a case of defamation, it is a case of disseminating false information. YouTube is a profit-taking platform and if you are taking advantage of it, then you also have a social responsibility.
