Although Mahindra’s SUV segment includes many other popular cars like XUV400, XUV700 and Scorpio N, but Thar is something different. The leading car manufacturing company has now started preparations to introduce Thar in 5 door avatar. It is being said in media reports that the company can launch this new incarnation of Thar in the market in the beginning of February itself. Thar 3 Door, one of the popular brands of Mahindra, has proved to be a blockbuster for it. It is also possible that with the increased fan following, Mahindra Thar 5 Door may prove to be more popular and blockbuster than the current model.
Mahindra 5 Door Thar Dashboard
The dashboard of Mahindra Thar 5 Door has been designed in dual-tone theme of brown and black color. In comparison, the 3-door Thar gets an all-black theme for the dashboard. The dual-tone theme also means that the upholstery is also likely to get a dual-tone theme. Mahindra has brought forward circular AC vents, climate control system and chunky grab handle for the passenger. There is visible space in the dashboard, which looks bigger than the dashboard of the 3-door Thar. Mahindra will probably fit a larger 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system in this SUV instead of the 7-inch unit that comes with the 3-door Thar. The new infotainment system will run on a new user interface, which will be more sleek and responsive than the existing system. There is also a possibility that Mahindra may make changes in the instrument cluster also.

Mahindra 5 door Thar SUV can come with a large touchscreen. This will probably be a 10.25-inch unit, which has become common for SUVs in the country. This is also the minimum thing which attracts most of the customers. The current 3-door Mahindra Thar has a 7-inch touchscreen. Users have been complaining about its small size, average display and interface. The new Thar 5-door will be a more practical offering than the 3-door model while retaining its off-road capability. Previous spy shots have revealed several features including the dashboard and second row seats. It will get features like electric sunroof, a large infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a center armrest between the front seats, height adjustable seatbelts and AC vents for the rear passengers. It will also have a large boot space, which will make it more practical for everyday driving.

The Mahindra 5 door Thar may also get a new instrument cluster, which may include a larger MID, which may be borrowed from the Scorpio N. Some changes have been made to the large touchscreen adjustable dashboard. However, other features like HVAC controls, AC vents, toggle switch at the bottom, rotary dial and physical buttons appear to be similar to the current 3-door Thar. Since users will expect more comfort and features with the 5-door Thar. Therefore, the SUV has been equipped with a single-piece center armrest for the front occupants. Apart from this, its rear seat occupants will get the benefit of individual AC vents located below the front center armrest. Mahindra can offer regular bench seats or individual seats like the 3-door Thar, or both options depending on the variant. Other major upgrades on the 5-door Thar include a dashcam and a single-pane sunroof. The SUV will be available only with fixed roof format.

Viewed from the front, the 5-door Thar will share most of the signature features of the standard Thar. Why would people buy the 5-door version? The main reason for this will still be its dominant street presence. However, due to the addition of rear doors, it will look completely different if seen from the side. From the side, the 5-door Thar may lose some of its aggressive personality. The rear design and styling will be largely similar to the standard Thar.

Two engine options will be available in 5-door Thar. This includes 130 HP 2.2-litre diesel and 150 HP 2.0-litre petrol. Both engines will be available with 6-speed manual and 6-speed automatic transmission options.
Features of Mahindra 5 Door Thar
Recently, a 5-door Mahindra Thar has been seen in spy shots taken during testing. In this its design looks completely different from the 3 door Thar. Along with this, more features can be found in its interior. These include a large 10.25-inch touchscreen and a sunroof. It is likely to retain the existing 2.2-litre diesel and 2.0-litre petrol engines, mated to the same 6-speed manual and auto gearboxes.

Due to the larger size and new equipment, the Mahindra Thar 5-door may be more expensive than the existing Thar 3-door and its price is estimated to be between Rs 16 lakh to Rs 20 lakh. Prices for the current Thar 3 door start at Rs 10.98 lakh (RWD) and go up to Rs 16.94 lakh for the top-spec diesel AT 4WD variant.
