San Francisco. AI-based writing assistant Grammarly is laying off 230 employees as part of a restructuring. Of these, 82 are in America.
The Ukraine-based writing assistance and tutoring company said the job cuts are necessary to prepare for an AI-centric future.
The layoffs affected the head of brand design, the head of human insights and 17 software engineers, the San Francisco Chronicle reports.
About 37 employees will be laid off in Ukraine, where the company was founded in 2009.
The company said it would cooperate with the affected employees. Each member of the Ukrainian team will receive compensation for six months, as well as additional payments for health insurance and career coaching.
Dismissed employees will be allowed to keep company-issued laptops and other devices.
According to the report, the company analyzed the team’s organizational structure with an overview of its future strategy.
Grammarly has offices in San Francisco, Kiev, New York City, Vancouver, and Berlin.
