New Delhi. Amazon is rolling out Passkey support on browsers and mobile shopping apps (iOS users), making it easier and more secure for customers to access their accounts with passwordless sign-in.
Customers can now set up a passkey in their Amazon settings, allowing them to use the same face, fingerprint, or PIN they use to unlock their device.
“It’s about providing customers with ease of use and security together in their Amazon experience,” said Dave Treadwell, senior vice president of e-commerce at Amazon.
“While passwords will still exist for the foreseeable future, this is an exciting step in the right direction. “We are thrilled to see early adoption of this new authentication method that will help realize our vision for a more secure, password-free Internet,” Treadwell said.
The e-commerce giant said in a statement late Monday that Passkey support is available to all Amazon customers using the browser and is gradually being made available on the iOS Amazon Shopping app, as well as the Android Amazon Shopping app. But support will start coming soon.
Unlike a password, the passkey cannot be written down or guessed, helping to prevent accidental sharing of the passkey with a hacker.
Amazon said, “When a customer uses the passkey on their device, it proves that they have their device and are able to unlock it. Customers no longer have to worry about remembering unique passwords or using easily guessed identifiers like names or birthdays. ,
Customers can use the passkey to sign in to apps and sites in the same way they unlock their device with a fingerprint, face scan, or lock screen PIN.
The company said Passkeys are less vulnerable to phishing attacks than passwords and one-time codes in text messages, making them a more secure option.
