Amazon shuts down Hello division, lays off employees

New Delhi. Amazon has shut down its health-focused Halo division, as well as the Halo Band, Halo View and Halo Rise devices that are no longer available on its website. The company has also fired the employees of the Hello team. The company said in a blog post late on Wednesday that starting August 1, Amazon Hello devices and the Amazon Hello app will no longer work.

Amazon said, “We recently made the very difficult decision to discontinue support of Amazon Halo effective July 31, 2023. We notified affected employees in the US and Canada today. In other regions, we are following local procedures.” which may include time for consultation with employee representative bodies and potentially longer communication with affected employees.”

For employees affected by this decision, Amazon is offering a package that includes severance pay, transitional health insurance benefits and external job placement support.

Over the coming weeks, Amazon will fully refund purchases made over the past 12 months for Amazon Halo View, Amazon Halo Band, Amazon Halo Rice, and Amazon Halo Accessory Bands.

In addition, any unused prepaid Helo subscription fee will be refunded to your original payment method, the e-commerce giant said. If you have a paid subscription, starting today you will not be charged the monthly subscription fee. You don’t need to take any additional steps.

Amazon launched the original Halo Band in 2020.

The company said it encourages users to recycle Amazon Halo devices and accessories through the Amazon Recycling program.(IANS)
