Amazon’s device chief confirms he’s stepping down

San Francisco. Dave Limp, head of Amazon devices and services, who has been with the company for nearly 14 years, has confirmed he is stepping down, Amazon CEO Andy Jassy announced Tuesday.

JC said that after working with Amazon for nearly 14 years and making countless contributions to the company, Limp has decided to retire from the company.

The Amazon chief said, “Under Limp’s leadership, Amazon has become one of the world’s leading innovators in building the tools and underlying services customers love. From Kindle readers to Fire TV to Alexa and Echo, over the past decade and a half we’ve been able to invent and improve experiences that help improve our customers’ lives every day.”

Limp will remain in his position for the next few months and the company will announce his successor in the coming weeks.

Following his departure, Amod reports that Amazon’s costly bet on smart home devices hasn’t paid off.

Amazon has also reduced around 27,000 jobs as part of cost-cutting measures amid the economic slowdown.

Limp said in a blog post that he has made the difficult decision to leave Amazon after nearly 14 years in just a few months.

Limp said, “The obvious question is why? It may be easier to explain why not. It’s not because of our team, it’s a great team and some of you I’ve worked with for decades. You all are experts in your craft.

Limp said, “It’s not because I’m done with Amazon. It’s time. I’ve been doing a version of this job (manufacturing and shipping consumer electronics) for over 30 years. I like it, but I also want to see the future from a different perspective.

Not sure what the future holds, Limp said, but it won’t be in the consumer electronics sector.
