New Delhi : Electric two-wheeler maker Ather Energy has launched its affordable 450S electric scooter in the market. This electric scooter from the two-wheeler making start-up will compete with Ola Electric’s S-1 Air in the market. According to media reports, Ather Energy is preparing to deliver the 450S electric scooter to its customers before the festive season. The Bengaluru-based EV maker has started launching its most affordable electric scooter from its facility in Hosur, Tamil Nadu. Tarun Mehta, Founder & CEO, Ather Energy shared the new electric scooters being prepared for delivery today. The electric scooter will compete with the Ola S1 Air. Ola S-1 Air was launched earlier this year at a price of Rs 1.30 lakh (ex-showroom).

as per FAME 2 plan

The bookings for the Ather 450S opened in June this year, when the electric scooter was officially launched. Ather Energy says that the price is in line with the revised FAME 2 plan. Customers can get more benefits from their electric vehicle policies of the respective states.

lithium ion battery pack

The Ather 450S is powered by a 3 kWh lithium-ion battery pack, which is claimed to offer a range of 115 km on a single charge. The battery pack can be charged up to 80 percent in about six hours and 36 minutes using a home charger, while it takes eight hours and 36 minutes to charge up to 100 percent.

The electric motor is capable of producing maximum power of 7.24 bhp and peak torque of 22 Nm. The 450S electric scooter can also run at a top speed of 90 kmph. The Ather 450S offers three ride modes with the 450S, which include Sport Mode, Eco Mode and Ride Mode.

Ather 450S Design

Now when it comes to design, there is little to differentiate the 450S from the more premium 450X. The Ather 450S gets the same curvy front cowl as the 450X along with the LED headlamps. Even from the side profile and rear, it looks exactly like the flagship Ather electric scooter.

Difference between Ather 450 S and 450 XX

The major difference between the Ather 450 S and 450 XX is the instrument cluster. To keep costs down, Ather replaced the unit used in the 450X with an LCD panel, which lacks normal map navigation. In the 450 S one needs to use the MapMyIndia powered navigation system, which provides turn-by-turn navigation.

Ola S-1 Air

Now if we talk about Ola S-1 Air Scooter, then electric vehicle manufacturer Ola Electric has launched the S1 Air Scooter in the beginning of August. Ola S1 Air is priced at Rs 1.20 lakh ex-showroom. However, Ola Electric has discontinued the S1. Therefore, now the company will sell only S1 Air and S1 Pro.

Ola S1 Air battery and range

The battery size of the Ola S1 Air electric scooter is 3 kWh and it will take 5 hours to fully charge using the portable charger that comes with the scooter. Ola is claiming a riding range of 125 km on a single charge.

Ola S1 Air performance

Ola Electric is using a 4.5 kW electric motor, which is hub mounted. It can accelerate from 0 to 40 kmph in 3.3 seconds, while it can reach 60 kmph in 5.7 seconds. The top speed of the scooter is 90 kmph and it comes with three riding modes. These are Eco, Normal and Sports.

Ola S1 Air hardware

Suspension duties on the Ola S1 Air are handled by telescopic forks at the front and dual shock absorbers at the rear. The braking setup includes drum brakes at the front and rear. Also, the company has changed the floorboard to a flat design and the rear grab rail is comfortable. The S1 comes with steel wheels instead of the air alloy wheels.
