The High Court said that it is the responsibility of the government and the district administration to ensure the safety of women. The sorrow and oppression that the women of Sandeshkhali are going through. The ruling party and the state administration are completely responsible for this, they cannot shirk their responsibilities.

On January 5, the ED team had reached the residence of Trinamool Congress leader Sheikh Shahjahan in Sandeshkhali in connection with the investigation of the ration distribution scam. During this time, supporters of Sheikh Shahjahan attacked the team, in which the officers were injured. After this, many women of Sandeshkhali accused Shahjahan and his associates of land grabbing and sexual harassment. Women in Sandeshkhali, West Bengal, had alleged that Trinamool Congress leader Shahjahan Shaikh and his supporters had sexually harassed them.
