New Delhi : Now agencies and governments across the country have come into action regarding the increasing air pollution in Delhi. In such a situation, taxes have started falling on buses, cars, taxis and autos. There is also news that the government has started preparing to punish the car manufacturing companies for not following the emission norms properly. It is being reported in the media that many major car manufacturing companies of India have been found guilty of allegedly not following the emission norms properly. It is also being told that the Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE) has recommended imposing a fine of crores of rupees on car manufacturing companies that do not properly follow the emission norms.

Recommendation of heavy fine on guilty companies

A report in the English newspaper Times of India said that in its investigation, BEE has found car manufacturers like Kia, Hyundai, Renault, Skoda, Volkswagen and Nissan guilty of not complying with the mandatory emission norms. The report also says that BEE has recommended the central government to impose heavy fines on these companies. It has also been said in the recommendation of BEE that these car manufacturing companies will have to immediately move towards manufacturing such vehicles which emit less pollution or which run on the use of green energy.

AQI at dangerous level in many cities of the country

Let us tell you that since the beginning of autumn, the level of air pollution has increased significantly in many cities of the country including Delhi. Especially, people of Delhi-NCR are facing toxic pollution. The Air Quality Index (AQI) has reached dangerous levels in many cities of the country. However, every year during winter the air quality index in densely populated cities reaches dangerous levels and the smoke emitted from vehicles is blamed for this.

Under what circumstances will the fine be imposed?

Let us tell you that the Corporate Average Fuel Economy (CAFE) norm has been implemented in the country since January this year, whose aim is essentially to reduce vehicle emission levels. This is to be implemented on the entire fleet of a company. The CAFE target for a particular company is calculated taking into account the weight of the model and the number of units sold. This is done for all models and all units of each model sold under one company. In this, the CO2 emission level or CAFE target is calculated on the basis of these numbers. If the emission levels of a particular company’s fleet are above the mandatory figures, it can be fined.
