A Chinese startup has created a battery with atomic power. The company claims that it will provide power for 50 years without charging and maintenance. The size of this battery is just equal to a coin.
According to media reports, Beijing’s Betavolt startup has managed to compress 63 isotopes in this module, which is smaller than a coin. The company also said that this is the world’s first battery to use atomic energy in the smallest form. The company claims that this battery will neither catch fire nor explode under pressure, because it has been tested at different temperatures. The next generation battery is currently in the testing phase. Soon it will be produced on a large scale for equipment like mobile phones and drones.
The company said that Betavolt atomic energy batteries can supply long-term power to many equipment such as aerospace, AI equipment, medical equipment, microprocessor, advanced sensors, small drones and micro robots. This battery will especially work to revolutionize the world of AI.
The dimension of the battery is 15X15X5 mm. It is made of thin layers of atomic isotopes and diamond semiconductors. Nuclear batteries currently generate 100 microwatts of electricity at 3 volts. The company plans to take it to 1 watt power by 2025. Betavolt says that this is a thin nuclear battery, which generates power of 100 microwatts.
How does battery work?
This battery works to convert the energy released from the isotope into electricity. This process was first developed in the 20th century. Scientists from the Soviet Union and America had jointly prepared this concept. Scientists used this technology in underwater systems and remote scientific stations. However, its cost may be higher and after production it may prove to be an expensive battery.
