Dell will lay off employees in the sales team under the market strategy

San Francisco. Dell Technologies will lay off some employees in its sales team as part of the market strategy. However, the company has not confirmed whether these layoffs are part of or in addition to the 6,650 job cuts announced earlier this year.

Dell has confirmed that it will cut jobs among its core sales teams, adopting a new partner-led model that pays its direct sales force more to sell storage products through the channel.

A Dell spokesperson was quoted as saying, “Some employees on our sales team will be leaving the company. We have done a lot of thought before making this decision. We will support the affected employees.”

“We are always evaluating our business to remain competitive and ensure we are prepared to deliver the best innovation, value and service to our customers and partners,” the spokesperson said.

In February, Dell laid off 6,500 employees, roughly 5 percent of its then 133,000-strong workforce.

Partners were heard saying that they see the layoffs as an opportunity to double down on Dell and drive sales growth.

The new round of job cuts comes two weeks after Dell co-COO Chuck Whitten abruptly resigned, according to the report.

In its fiscal 2024 first quarter financial results, Dell reported revenue of $20.9 billion, down 20 percent, and generated operating income of $1.1 billion.

Whitton said, “We performed well in a challenging economic backdrop. We maintained pricing discipline, reduced operating expenses, and our supply chain continued to outperform competitors even as our supply chain returned to normal.”(IANS)
