Mahindra SUVs: The demand for sports utility vehicles (SUVs) of India’s automobile manufacturer Mahindra & Mahindra has increased so much during the financial year 2023-24 that more than 2.80 lakh orders are pending. In the recent past, Mahindra & Mahindra had announced that the company has more than 2.81 lakh orders for its range of SUVs. The company released the figures in its annual report for the first quarter of the financial year 2023-24. The automaker has confirmed that it is operating at almost full capacity and has delivered over 1 lakh SUVs between April-July 2023. The Mahindra Scorpio lineup includes the Scorpio-N and the Scorpio Classic, which have the highest number of orders. After this comes the number of XUV700.
1.17 lakh bookings for Mahindra Scorpio Classic and Scorpio
Talking about the demand and bookings for Mahindra & Mahindra’s sports utility vehicles, the Mahindra Scorpio Classic and Scorpio currently have over 1.17 lakh bookings in total. The automaker manufactures around 14,000 units of both the sports utility vehicles every month. It is followed by the Mahindra XUV700, which has over 77,000 bookings and new bookings of around 8,000 units are coming in every month. The waiting period on the top-spec variant has increased by almost a year.
Mahindra Thar most sought after SUV
With over 68,000 bookings at Mahindra, the sports utility vehicle Mahindra Thar is the third most sought-after SUV from the automaker. The company is getting orders for around 10,000 units every month. The more affordable Thar RWD variant is in strong demand despite a waiting period of around 15 months, while the 4X4 variant has an average waiting period of five months.
11,000 pending orders for Mahindra XUV300 and XUV400
Now if we talk about vehicles with pending orders, then the order book of Mahindra XUV300 and XUV400 has a total of 11,000 bookings pending and about 6,000 units of new orders are coming every month. Mahindra Bolero and Bolero Neo models have around 8,400 open bookings and around 9,000 units are produced on a monthly basis. It is one of the few models in Mahindra’s lineup with the shortest waiting period.
48,000 new bookings every month
Mahindra also informed that the company is receiving around 48,000 new bookings per month with 33,000 being billed on a monthly basis. Less than 8 percent of orders are being canceled every month. The automaker has increased its SUV production capacity to 39,000 units per month in the third quarter of FY2023 and plans to increase it to 49,000 units by the fourth quarter of FY2024. It also plans to introduce new models with the Bolero Neo Plus, XUV300 facelift as well as the Thar 5-door.
Mahindra Thar Update
New badging will be seen in the rear-wheel drive model of Mahindra Thar. The company is also going to increase the production of its cars, due to which the waiting period of this SUV car will be reduced.
Price: Mahindra Thar car price starts at Rs. 10.54 Lakh and goes up to Rs. 16.78 Lakh (ex-showroom).
Variant: Mahindra Thar is available in two variants AX optional and LX.
color: Thar is available in six color options: Everest White (New), Blazing Bronze (New), Aquamarine, Red Rage, Napoli Black and Galaxy Grey.
Engine and Transmission: Mahindra Thar is available in three engine options 2-litre turbo petrol (150PS/320Nm), 2.2-litre diesel (130PS/300Nm) and 1.5-litre diesel (118PS/300Nm). A 6-speed manual gearbox is standard with all engines, while the 2-litre turbo petrol and 2.2-litre diesel engines are offered with a 6-speed automatic gearbox as an option. The Thar car is available in both four-wheel-drive and rear-wheel-drive options.

Apart from this, it also gets washable interior and removable roof panels.

In terms of passenger safety, it gets features like dual front airbags, ABS with EBD, rear parking sensors and front seatbelt reminder as standard.
Mahindra Thar Compete
Mahindra Thar Force will compete with Gurkha and Maruti Jimny. On the price front, it rivals the likes of Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, MG Aster, Skoda Kushaq, Volkswagen Taigun, Toyota Hyrider and Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara compact SUV.
