Even after being jailed for bribery, SI Meera Singh’s influence was still intact, she came into limelight because of this case.

Ranchi: Meera Singh was arrested by the Anti Corruption Bureau (ACB) on 25 February 2021 for taking a bribe of Rs 15,000 while she was the in-charge of Khunti Mahila Police Station. She also went to jail in judicial custody. Despite this there was no difference in his influence. She emerged more powerful in the department. After coming out of jail, the police headquarters again transferred him to Khunti district force.

But due to his influence, the police headquarters canceled its order and posted him in the Ranchi district force of his choice. The then SSP Kishore Kaushal had made Meera Singh in-charge of Tupudana OP. After this, a case of third degree torture of Vikas Kumar, the caretaker of an apartment on an allegation of theft, by Tupudana OP in-charge Meera Singh and policeman Sunil Singh came to light on January 10, 2023.

The National Human Rights Commission had summoned the SSP of Ranchi in the matter. The Commission had sought a report from the SSP of Ranchi regarding the criminal case as well as the outcome of the departmental investigation under the proceedings of July 17, 2023. After this, the report of the SSP was presented before the Commission by Ranchi DC through a letter on May 30, 2023. In this report the Commission was told that the matter has been investigated.

During investigation of FIR number 16/2023 registered at Dhurva police station, the allegations of the complainant were found to be true. Therefore, a departmental inquiry has been ordered against the guilty police officers Tupudana OP in-charge Meera Singh and Sunil Kumar Singh. This matter was raised strongly by BJP state president Babulal Marandi. Despite this, Meera Singh’s influence was such that she continued to hold the post of Tupudana OP in-charge.
