PM Modi visited Vikram Sarabhai Space Center at Thumba near Thiruvananthapuram. Here he said that Group Captain Prashant Balakrishnan Nair, Angad Pratap, Ajit Krishnan and Wing Commander Shubhanshu Shukla will be the designated astronauts for the Gaganyaan mission. During this, the PM awarded astronaut wings to these four.

At the same time, the PM also emphasized the important role played by women in the country’s space programme. Now the question is arising that why there is no woman pilot among the pilots selected for the Gaganyaan mission?

In fact, PM Modi said on this occasion that women are an important part of space missions like Chandrayaan and Gaganyaan. And without them this would not have been possible. Also, according to a report by NDTV, the answer to this question can be found in the method of selecting passengers for space flight. Astronauts designated for such missions are selected from a pool of test pilots around the world. At the time of selection for Gaganyaan, India did not have any female test pilot.

Also, let us tell you that test pilots are highly skilled aviators who are selected because of their special skills. These people have the ability to remain calm even during emergencies and are the best among air warriors.

Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) Chairman S Somnath has also given a statement regarding this. In which he has said that, in the coming time, he will be happy to send women astronauts on space flight. Somnath said that India will need mission experts very soon. Women can fit well into this role as astronauts. At present, the first few missions of Gaganyaan will be carried out by the crew members who have been selected and trained.

Dr. Unnikrishnan Nair, director of Vikram Sarabhai Space Center and a big face of India’s human space program, also told the future plan. He said that women will definitely be included in the future. Because for ISRO, only talent and not gender matters.
