San Francisco. Google is reportedly cutting “a few hundred” more jobs in its ad sales team as part of an ongoing restructuring, after laying off nearly a thousand employees last week.
Google Chief Business Officer Philip Schindler told employees in a memo that the latest job cuts “are the result of a change in the way Google operates its sales team,” Business Insider reports.
A Google spokesperson also confirmed that “a few hundred roles are being eliminated globally” as part of the restructuring.
The layoffs will primarily affect Google’s large customer sales (LCS) unit. This team that sells advertising to big businesses.
The Google Customer Solutions team (GCS), which sells ads to smaller customers, will now become the main ad sales team.
Google had laid off some employees from its LCS team in October last year.
A company spokesperson was quoted as saying, Every year we go through a rigorous process to structure our team to provide the best service to our advertising clients.
We connect customers with the right expert teams and sales channels to meet their service needs,” the spokesperson said. As part of this, a few hundred roles are being eliminated globally and affected employees will be able to apply for open roles at Google or elsewhere.
Google recently laid off employees in several departments including hardware, central engineering team and Google Assistant.
In January last year, Google cut its workforce by 12 thousand employees, which is about six percent of its full-time employees.
The tech giant also cut other jobs in its recruiting and news divisions at the end of the year.
