There is no use of voting in favor of Congress candidates: Himanta
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma had a few days ago said that there was no point in voting for Congress candidates as they would eventually join the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). Speaking to the media after campaigning for BJP candidates in Silchar and Karimganj, two constituencies of Barak Valley, Sarma had said, whether they win or lose is a different matter but the question is whether the candidate will remain in the Congress. He said that now no one wants to stay in Congress but they are eager to join BJP.
PM Modi is the sun and we all are his moon: Sarma
Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma, while commenting on the leaders leaving Congress and joining BJP, had said that the credit for this completely goes to Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He had said that the Prime Minister is the sun and we all are the moon around him.
BJP had won 9 seats in 2019
In the current Lok Sabha, out of 14 seats in Assam, nine are held by BJP and three by Congress, while AIUDF and an independent have one seat each.
BJP is contesting elections on 14 seats in Assam
The National Democratic Alliance (NDA) is contesting on all 14 seats in the state, of which the BJP has announced candidates on 11 seats, while its allies – Assam Gana Parishad (AGP) on two seats and United People’s Party Liberal (UPPL ) will contest elections on one seat. While Congress is a part of the 16-party United Opposition Forum Assam (UofA) and will contest on 12 seats, it has left the Dibrugarh seat for AJP. No decision has been taken yet on Lakhimpur seat. Voting will be held in Assam in three phases on 19 April, 26 April and 7 May.
