Hyundai and Kia recall over 91,000 cars over faulty electric components

New Delhi : South Korean automaker Hyundai and its subsidiary Kia have recalled more than 91,000 cars in the US amid fire risks due to technical defects. A Reuters report states that Hyundai and Kia have together recalled more than 91,000 new cars in the US due to fire risks arising from faulty electric components. It is being told that there is a danger of fire due to fault in the electric component of the cars of these two companies. Hence the companies have recalled them and till the time the models are rectified, their owners will be provided with rental cars. Along with this, the engine will be repaired free of cost on all models.
These models of Hyundai-Kia were recalled
A report by news agency Reuters claims that around 52,000 Hyundai cars and around 40,000 Kia cars have been recalled for the issue. It also reveals that the models affected in the recall campaign include 2023-2024 Hyundai Palisade, 2023 Hyundai Tucson, Hyundai Sonata, Hyundai Elantra and Hyundai Kona. For Kia, the 2023-2024 Seltos and 2023 Soul and Sportage vehicles have been recalled under the campaign.
Engine overheating due to malfunction of electric components
Reports suggest that both South Korean auto makers have advised owners of potentially affected vehicles to park vehicles away from and outside the structures until repairs are completed. Hyundai and Kia reportedly discovered a possible defect in the electronic controllers of the idle stop and go oil pump assembly. It has been said in the report that due to damaged electric components, the engines of the cars are getting overheated, which can lead to fire. In addition to the risk of fire, heat damage can also cause a short circuit, affecting other vehicle controls onboard.
Vehicles will be repaired for free
Hyundai and Kia have reportedly received six and four cases related to thermal issues. Although, both the South Korean auto makers have claimed that they have not reported any accident with these models so far, but this step has been taken as a precautionary measure after receiving complaints. The report further states that owners of affected vehicles will be informed by the end of September this year and dealers will test and replace the faulty fuel pump controllers as required, free of charge.
Rented cars will be available till the vehicles are fixed
Recall documents from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) reveal that Hyundai has advised its dealers to provide rental cars to concerned affected vehicle owners until the recall fix is complete. Also, the automakers have reportedly asked the drivers or owners to avoid driving and to take the vehicle to the nearest dealers on detection of burning or melting smell.
Hyundai Tucson sold over 7 million worldwide
Talking about the Tucson model of Hyundai, it is a compact crossover SUV and it is being sold in the car market since the year 2004. The Tucson Santa Fe sits between the Kona and the Creta in the brand’s lineup. It is named after the city of Tucson in Arizona. The second generation model was sold as the Hyundai ix35 in several markets including Europe, Australia and China, before returning to the Tucson for the third generation. The Tucson is the best selling Hyundai SUV model and has sold over 7 million units globally since its launch in 2004. Of these, 1.4 million units have been sold in Europe.
