Amid rising incidents of OTP and password hacking, researchers at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Mandi have developed a system that will adopt specific user biometric-based behavior patterns for secure authentication, eliminating the use of traditional methods.

According to PTI report, the system called ‘ADAPID’ has been developed in collaboration with ‘Deep Algorithms’, including Amit Shukla of ‘Centre for Artificial Intelligence and Robotics’ (CAIR) of IIT Mandi and JP of ‘Deep Algorithms’. Mishra are included.

A company called ‘Deep Algorithm’ is leading the development of this system which has been designed on the concept of IIT Mandi and IIT Kanpur. Its headquarters is in Hyderabad and research and development office is in IIT Mandi.

This system has already been granted a patent and is being used in a bank and a forensic company. The team is currently in talks with the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) to use it for authentication in government schemes.

Those involved in the development of this system said that in today’s digitally driven landscape, organizations face the tough challenge of protecting sensitive data against persistent cyber threats while providing a seamless user experience. Shukla told Bhasha, traditional authentication methods relying on passwords and other security measures prove to be inadequate, increasing the vulnerability of institutions to breaches.

He said, the increasing incidents of cyber fraud, especially due to OTP such cases, have prompted institutions to find stronger solutions against unauthorized access and data breaches. Shukla said that in the new system the need for password and OTP will be eliminated and the process of ‘access’ of users will be streamlined to avoid emerging threats.
