Lok Sabha Election 2024: In the changing times, the methods of election campaign have also changed. Now cheeky slogans are not heard. There was a time when all parties used to prepare slogans on local problems, but this is no longer the case. There was a time when the whole country joined Dr. Ram Manohar Lohia on his slogan ‘four hours for the stomach, one hour for the country’. Some slogans were made such that they stuck to the tongues of children. These included slogans like ‘Stop smoking beedis, vote for Jan Sangh’. The worker also packed bread from home and set out on foot to campaign for the party and the candidate. Today the situation is such that campaigning does not start without a lunch packet and a four-wheeler.

As soon as elections came, slogans were made at national and local level. National level slogans include ‘One flag, one mark, India is demanding’, ‘Sansopa has tied the knot, backward people have got sixty out of a hundred’, ‘Equal education for all, laborers and farmers have woken up’, ‘Bulls ran away from burnt huts, which Along with ‘Dekho Deepak Ka Khel’, one of Lohia’s slogans like ‘Zinda koumne five saal nahi wait karti karti’ was quite popular. This slogan of opposition parties against corruption was also much discussed in the 80s. Many such slogans like ‘Eat sugar, drank oil, whatever you see is government’s game’ were seen echoing in the streets.

Bundeli slogans used to add a lot of color

Two decades ago, elections were celebrated as a festival. Street meetings continued to be held before the elections. Hand written banners were prepared. Which were made from raw and solid colors. Also, slogans were prepared at the local level. Socialist thinker Lakshmi Narayan Vishwakarma told that when Sushila Nayyar was in the election field, ‘Ek Chavanni oil mein, Nayyar reached jail’ was very much in trend. After this, whenever Bundela lost an election, slogans like ‘Dau ka Halua, Kha Gaye Thalua’ were prevalent. However, at that time no one felt bad about election slogans.
