A candidate can spend between Rs 50 lakh to Rs 70 lakh in Lok Sabha elections. However, it depends on which state he is contesting from. In all other states except Arunachal Pradesh, Goa and Sikkim (spending limit Rs 54 lakh), a candidate can spend a maximum of Rs 70 lakh on campaigning. This limit is 70 lakh for Delhi and 54 lakh for other union territories. The maximum expenditure limit for assembly elections is between Rs 20 lakh to Rs 28 lakh.

Election expenditure increased five times in the last five elections
