Banka parliamentary seat of Bihar may not be discussed much in the present, but its past often remained in the headlines across the country. Three national leaders of the Samajwadi Movement, Madhu Limaye, George Fernandes and Rajnarayan, have contested elections from this seat. But on one hand, the people here sent leaders like Madhu Limaye as MP twice and also lost the elections twice. George Fernandes and Rajnarayan have also lost the elections from here. On the other hand, prominent leaders like BP Mandal from Madhepura have also lost the elections in 1957. Had to face defeat.

Former Chief Minister of Bihar Karpoori Thakur continued winning assembly elections. But, Karpoori Thakur lost only one election in his life. That was the 1984 Lok Sabha elections. Remained invincible in assembly elections throughout his life. After the assassination of Indira Gandhi, in 1984, against his wish, Karpoori Thakur contested as a Lok Dal candidate from Samastipur Lok Sabha seat. In those days, there was a wave of sympathy after the assassination of Indira Gandhi and Karpoori Thakur also got caught in this wave.

At the same time, former Chief Minister of Bihar Lalu Prasad, who reached Parliament after winning the Lok Sabha elections in the lowest number in the 1977 elections, had to face defeat in 1979. Former Chief Minister Jagannath Mishra had contested the Lok Sabha elections from Madhubani and was defeated there. Nitish Kumar also had to face defeat due to floods. Although he contested elections from two Lok Sabha constituencies. He had won from Nalanda. Former Chief Minister Ramsundar Das also won the election from Hajipur Lok Sabha seat and also lost from there.

Similarly, George Fernandes, a veteran leader from socialist background, had contested elections twice from Banka seat, but had to face defeat both times. Once he also lost from Muzaffarpur Lok Sabha seat. Former minister Ram Vilas Paswan, who won the election from Hajipur with record votes, has also lost the election. Senior leaders like Sharad Yadav also lost the elections from Madhepura. Shatrughan Sinha was also once disliked by the people of Bihar.
