According to a report in Indian Express, a Mumbai-based man lost Rs 22,396 to the fraud. Ramsingh Rajput, a resident of Kalbadevi and a sales manager at a garment store, was trying to increase the limit on his Kotak Mahindra credit card. While doing this, he got caught in the trick and entered the OTP on an unverified link.
On January 15, a woman identifying herself as Priyanka Dharma spoke to the man and asked him to increase her credit card limit. When the man said yes to increase the credit card limit, the fraudster sent him a link and asked him to enter OTP in it. On doing so, the woman transferred Rs 22,396 from his bank account.
In the recent report of the Reserve Bank of India, it has been told that most of the banking frauds are seen. In the time of 6 months which ends on September 2022, there were 2231 fraud cases in which fraud of Rs 87 crore took place. According to the details shared by RBI, compared to 2021, the average number of cyber fraud cases has decreased slightly.
Users are repeatedly suggested not to share your bank’s OTP with anyone. In most cases, people are tricked into sharing the OTP or clicking on a link. it causes great harm to the people
