Mahindra reveals the launch timeline of the new electric SUV, know what is special

Cape Town / New Delhi : India’s leading automobile manufacturer Mahindra & Mahindra has just unveiled its future roadmap at the Futurescape event held in Cape Town, South Africa on August 15, but also the launch timeline of several SUVs (Sports Utility Vehicles) coming in its lineup. has also been disclosed. Upcoming SUVs in the automaker’s timeline include the Mahindra XUV.E8, Mahindra XUV.E9 and the BE.07 electric SUV. If media reports are to be believed, the automaker has also revealed about the luxury vehicles coming in the guise of starting production of BE.05 electric SUV.
Which SUVs will be available for sale when?
As per the announcements made by Mahindra, the XUV.E8 will be the first electric SUV to hit the market from the automaker’s new lineup and will go on sale in December 2024. The new Mahindra XUV.E8 is expected to be rear wheel drive only and will be powered by a Valeo-sourced electric motor mounted on the rear axle. This unit will be capable of generating 170 kW (228 Bhp) and 380 Nm of peak torque.
Mahindra XUV.E8 and XUV.E9 Design & Powertrain
The Mahindra XUV.E8 is similar to the XUV700 introduced by the company and is expected to share many parts with the ICE model. However, it will be based on the newly developed INGLO Skateboard platform for the automaker’s electric vehicles. It is said that by April 2025, its coupe can be used in XUV.E8 in Mahindra XUV.E9. The XUV.E8 will be a seven seater, while the XUV.E9 will be a five seater. It will also get a coupe roof with new stylish look. Both the XUVs are expected to get the same powertrain and battery options.
Mahindra will bring electric premium SUV
After this, Mahindra will move towards its new born electric premium SUV, starting with BE.05, which will be launched in October 2025. Also, the INGLO platform based BE.05 will be offered with single motor and dual motor options like Volkswagen. The single-motor rear-wheel drive unit will get a 210 kW (282 bhp) electric motor with 535 Nm of peak torque. The four wheel drive variants will come with a second motor mounted on the front axle, which will generate 80 kW (107 bhp) and 135 Nm of peak torque.
Mahindra Next SUV BE.07 Electric
Mahindra’s next SUV will be the BE.07 electric SUV, which is expected to be an upgraded model of the BE.05. It is expected to come with similar powertrain options and will be launched in April 2026. Interestingly, BE.07 was launched last year with a launch timeline of October 2026. It seems that the company has fast tracked its launch.
LFP battery pack in electric SUV
Mahindra has also confirmed that the future electric SUV will get LFP battery packs, which will have a slower discharge rate, higher energy density and no thermal expansion. The charging time of the batteries will be 0-80 per cent in 30 minutes. Mahindra’s future e-SUV will be big on technology including Level 2 ADAS, OTA updates and more. The upcoming Mahindra electric SUV will not only be screen-heavy, but will also be free from the effects of noise pollution. Oscar-winning music composer AR Rahman has been roped in to design the sound for the upcoming Mahindra EV.
Mahindra’s Thar Electric Launch
Mahindra & Mahindra has unveiled the electric concept SUV Thar.e based on its flagship off-road SUV Thar at an event in Cape Town, South Africa on 15 August. The Thar Electric Concept SUV is completely different in terms of its look with the design of Mahindra’s upcoming off-road electric SUV. The Mahindra Thar electric SUV will be a part of the carmaker’s Born Electric lineup. Along with this, the Indian automaker has also revealed the timeline of the four SUVs.

During the event held in Cape Town, South Africa, Mahindra has confirmed that the Thar electric SUV will be based on the INGLO-P1 EV platform. The platform has been tuned for better range with extended battery capacity and reduced vehicle weight. The Thar.e will also offer increased ground clearance and will come with all-wheel drive technology. Mahindra revealed that the Thar.e electric concept SUV will come with a wheelbase between 2,776 mm and 2,976 mm. The ground clearance of the electric SUV will be around 300 mm.
Electric Thar Design
In terms of looks, the Thar.e is completely different from the standard Thar SUV sold in India. The LED headlights in the frond now get a new square design and the LED bars on the grille give the impression of the carmaker’s signature slats. The concept EV also gets a thicker front bumper along with Thar.e badging on the black closed-out grille. It also stands on a massive set of all-terrain wheels.
