Mercedes-AMG will return to the market with C63 and E63 V8 engines, expect minor changes

New Delhi : German automaker Mercedes, which launched the Mercedes-Benz GLC on August 9, 2023 in the Indian car market, is soon preparing to return two electric luxury cars with a new avatar. According to media reports, the automaker is working on plans to reintroduce the Mercedes AMG C63 and E63 models in a new avatar using the V8 engine. Car and Driver has reported that these two performance-oriented luxury cars from Mercedes-Benz’s AMG division could introduce a new model of the M177 4.0-litre twin-turbocharged V8 engine in 2026. The report also claims that only minor changes will be required to fit the V8 engine in the Mercedes-AMG C63 and E63.
Mercedes-AMG C63 and E63 Powertrains
The report further claims that the upcoming V8-powered Mercedes-AMG C63 and E63 models will comply with the EU7 emission norms. Apart from this, these cars may also get some electrification in the powertrain, which will increase the range of the cars. Along with this, it will also reduce tailpipe emissions. However, the report has not revealed what the power and torque outputs of the upcoming V8 AMG cars will be.
Features of Mercedes-AMG C 63 and E63
Interestingly, the German luxury car brand already sells models with hybrid variants of the twin-turbocharged V8 power mill. The Mercedes-AMG GT63 SE Performance is powered by a force-inducted 4.0-litre engine with electric assistance. This hybrid V8 powertrain produces 831 bhp of maximum power and 1,400 Nm of peak torque. The powertrain gets a 6.1 kWh battery pack for electric assistance. This could help in understanding the power and torque outputs of the upcoming V8-powered AMG cars.
Mercedes-AMG C63 and E63 Battery
The current C63 gets power from a hybrid-assisted 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine that generates 671 bhp of max power and 1,019 Nm of peak torque. It gets a 6.1 kWh battery pack for electrical assistance. This powertrain helps the car to accelerate from 0-96 kmph in 3.3 seconds. The new E63 is yet to be launched but it is expected to be powered by a 3.0-litre inline six turbocharged engine. It will get plug-in hybrid assistance. The car is expected to break cover by the end of this year and promises 700 HP of peak power.
Mercedes-AMG C63 vs E63 Competitors
While the names of the V8 PHEVs in the C-Class and E-Class lines are yet to be revealed, Mercedes has already registered the E73 name, which looks like a promising contender for the title of the next performance king. It could compete with the BMW M5, which is also expected to get an electric V8.
Mercedes updated the AMG C63 for 2021
Mercedes-AMG updated its hot E63 range in 2021 with several changes to provide better comfort for the drivers without compromising on performance. The performance-based E-Class Gain design revision was unveiled globally as a facelift model, but is yet to make it to India. The updated E63 gets new styling features that aim to create a strong association with Mercedes-AMG’s sportscar range. The new styling also includes a bigger grille and aerodynamic changes to improve both engine grip and air pressure. The new E63 retains the 4.0-litre V8 turbo engine from the previous model, which produces 603hp and 850Nm of torque in the top-line S variant. Power is sent to all the four wheels via a 9-speed automatic gearbox.
