San Francisco. Microsoft has laid off 276 employees, mostly from customer service, support and sales teams, in a new round of job cuts.
The new round of job cuts is separate from the 10,000 global layoffs Microsoft announced on January 18, Geek Wire reports.
Microsoft fired 276 employees in Washington state. According to the Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification (WARN), the reductions will affect 210 employees at the company’s Bellevue and Redmond offices and 66 virtual employees.
“Organizational and workforce adjustments are a necessary and routine part of managing our business,” a Microsoft spokesperson said in a statement.
“We will continue to prioritize and invest in strategic growth areas for our future and in support of our customers and partners,” the spokesperson said.
The job cuts were revealed in several posts on LinkedIn, the leading professional networking platform, targeting customer support and sales jobs in Teams.
In May, Microsoft cut 158 jobs in Washington state, which were not part of the previously announced 10,000.
More than 2,700 Seattle-area employees were affected by layoffs announced earlier this year, according to the report. Microsoft Chairman and CEO Satya Nadella announced in January that the company would make changes that would result in a reduction of 10,000 jobs across its workforce by the end of the third quarter of fiscal year 2023.
