More than 2000 students failed in class 9th and 11th in Jamshedpur, questions are being raised on the quality education of private schools.

This is the reason why people believe that the schooling of Jamshedpur is world class. But, for the last few years, a strange trend has set in the city. Every year at the time of results, so-called protests are made in the newspapers and a memorandum to the Deputy Commissioner is passed by putting pressure on private schools. Educationists and school administrators are calling it dangerous. It is likely to have a widespread impact in the coming days. According to the information received from private schools, this time also more than 2,000 children have failed in class 9th and 11th.
102 children failed in Kerala Samajam Model School, protest
On Monday, students demonstrated at the gate of Kerala Samajam Model School. It was told that a total of 276 students study in class nine, out of which a total of 46 students failed. Among them, there are 10 such students who had failed in class ninth last year also, so they were made to repeat it. At the same time, a total of 190 children study in class 11th, out of which 56 students failed. Among these, there are seven students who had failed last year also. School Principal Nandani Shukla interacted with all the children and parents. No decision could be reached in this conversation. After this, there was talk of holding fresh talks on Wednesday.
63 students failed in DBMS English School
On Monday, students as well as their parents demonstrated at the gate of DBMS English School. The parents of all the students were demanding that their children be promoted to the next class. However, it was told by the school management that it is not the case that the said children have suddenly been failed. It was told by the school management that the children were also given warnings if they failed in different terminal exams. But, there has been no improvement in them. It was told that the children have been failed as per the rules of the board.
What is the rule of the board
There is a rule from the Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations (CISCE) board that to pass class 9th, it is mandatory for students to get minimum 33 marks in any subject, while to pass class 11th it is mandatory to get minimum 35 marks. Along with this, they have been given the formula of English plus best four to get promoted to the next class. That means, along with English, it is mandatory to pass in other four subjects. That means if students fail in one subject, they can be promoted to the next class. There was a change in the passing percentage in the year 2018. Earlier, 35 percent marks in class 9th and 40 percent marks in class 11th were mandatory to pass. Besides, the board has also given instructions to maintain uniformity in pass percentage.
100 failed in Rajendra Vidyalaya also, promoted conditionally
Recently, in Rajendra Vidyalaya also, about 100 students failed in class 9th and 11th. The parents of all the above students created a ruckus. Many serious allegations were made against the school management, after which tripartite talks were held under the chairmanship of the SDO. After this, a mutual agreement was reached between the school management and parents that all the students would be promoted conditionally. But, if after being promoted, they fail again in the first term of the next class, then they will have to study in the previous class again.
That’s why a large number of children are failing
- After the implementation of RTE, as a rule no child is to be failed till class 8th. Children do not study because of the fear of failing. Their base becomes weak. The standard of children up to eighth standard is equal to that of fifth-sixth. Suddenly, when they go to class ninth, they are unable to bear the weight of the syllabus.
- During the Corona period, children lost the habit of reading. Children remained away from books for two years. Losing the habit of reading has had a widespread impact.

- You are choosing wrong subjects in 11th. Most of the parents put pressure on their children to study science, for this they adopt every trick including lobbying in schools. Children are unable to bear the burden of science and fail in large numbers.
These three allegations are putting the school managers in the dock.
There is a competition among the private schools of the city to become the number one school. Competition between schools is not hidden from anyone. Every school is busy in branding itself when the results are released. Parents, on the condition of anonymity, say that more students are admitted in lower classes than the number of seats approved for the 10th and 12th examinations in schools. But, due to less number of students required for registration from the board, strict action is taken against them due to which they fail.
If you become a topper, you get school credit, but if you fail, you get dismissed.
While talking to Prabhat Khabar, many parents said that if their children fail, the entire responsibility is being put on the child and the parents. But, when the children pass with good marks, the school manager takes full credit. Pat yourself on the back. Parents said that if the child gets 10 and 15 marks even after staying in the school for 10 years, then the school cannot run away from its responsibility.
Children are pressurized to study tuition
There is a rule on paper in city schools that school teachers will not give tuition to children. But, the truth is something else. School teachers indiscriminately provide tuition to the children of their own school. The children who did not take tuition alleged that if they did not take tuition from the school teachers, they were given less marks in project work and class tests. Pressure is also created on children to study tuition.

A large number of children are failing. This is a matter of grave concern. There is a need to solve this problem together with school administrators and parents. School administrators are not the enemies of children. But, if the child’s base is weak, then there is a need to strengthen it, and not to give extra burden on the child by forcibly promoting him.

East Singhbhum DC Ananya Mittal said that principals of many private schools of the city met. He informed about the case of failure in class 9th and 11th. I have given them clear instructions to follow the rules of the Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations (CISCE) board. If a complaint is received that a child has been failed by tampering with the board’s instructions, then the matter will be investigated and action will be taken against the school manager.
Principals told DC that pressure is being created to pass the exam.
Like every time after failure in class 9th and 11th, this time also pressure is being put on all the private schools to pass the children under the “performance formula” outside the school gate. On Monday, students and parents also demonstrated at DBMS English School and Kerala Samajam Model School. After this, principals of about 25 private schools of the city collectively met Deputy Commissioner Ananya Mittal.

During this time, the principals of all the private schools expressed their grievances before the Deputy Commissioner. Said that the children who were failed in class 9th and 11th were given written warning not once or twice but more than five times. Along with the children, counseling of parents was also done. But, due to lack of improvement, he was forced to fail following the rules of CISCE Board. Deputy Commissioner Ananya Mittal, after listening to all the principals, gave permission to follow the rules set by the board. It was also instructed that if any complaint is received about failing the students with wrong intentions by violating the orders of the board, then all the schools will be investigated and strict action will be taken.
