At the same time, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee accused the villagers of being attacked by the investigators, which has sparked a political controversy.

The NIA said one of its officers was injured and a vehicle was damaged in the attack in Bhupatinagar. The ED team was attacked in West Bengal three months ago. They had gone to raid the residence of TMC leader Shahjahan Sheikh on January 5 in connection with the alleged ration scam, but villagers and locals attacked the team of Enforcement Directorate (ED) officials. Shahjahan Sheikh is now in police custody.
