Hardware PLI Scheme 2.0: As many as 40 companies, including Foxconn, HP, Dell and Lenovo, have applied under the ‘Production Linked Incentives’ (PLI) scheme for the hardware sector of information technology (IT). He has committed to manufacture IT products worth Rs 4.65 lakh crore during the plan period. The government gave this information in a statement issued on Thursday.

The last date for submission of applications under the PLI scheme of IT hardware sector was 30 August. According to the official statement, if all the companies applying are selected for this, then they will have to pay a total of Rs 22,890 crore to the government as incentive. However, the budget allocation for this scheme is only Rs 17,000 crore.

Through the PLI scheme announced for the IT hardware sector, initiatives have been taken to increase domestic production of equipment such as laptops, all-in-one PCs, servers and tablets. The companies selected for the scheme will get incentives from the government.

This scheme is also important in the sense that from November 1, the government has announced various restrictions on the import of IT equipment like laptops and tablets. Now these products cannot be imported directly and for this it will be necessary to take a license.

Of the companies that have applied, 27 are part of the domestic manufacturing category while 13 companies, including seven global players, have applied for the hybrid category.

According to a government statement, major IT hardware companies such as Dell and HP are directly participating in the scheme, while global companies such as HPE, Lenovo, Acer, Asus and Thomson are participating through electronics manufacturing service companies such as Flextronics and Rising Star.

Foxconn, which makes iPhones for the world’s leading phone maker Apple, has also applied for the scheme through a subsidiary.

Domestically active companies Dixon, VVDN, Netweb, Sirma, Optimus, Sahasra, Neolink, Panash, Sojo (Lava) and Keynes Technologies have also participated in the application process.

According to the statement, the applicants have projected a PLI amount of Rs 22,890 crore against the budget allocation of Rs 17,000 crore. Apart from this, these applicants have estimated a total production of Rs 4.65 lakh crore, while the target was Rs 3.35 lakh crore.

Electronics and Information Technology (IT) Minister Ashwini Vaishnav said on Wednesday that the PLI scheme for IT hardware has received an overwhelming response from companies. He had said that India is emerging as a reliable supply chain partner and value-added partner.

Manufacturing of electronics products in India has grown at an annual rate of 17 percent in the last eight years. This year it crossed the $105 billion mark. During this time India has become the second largest producer of mobile phones. with language input
