Ratan Tata Cheapest EV Cars: Tata Motors, the vehicle manufacturing company of veteran industrialist Ratan Tata, is providing affordable cars to the common upper middle class and lower middle class families of the country. Now this domestic company has planned to make and provide cheap electricity to the common poor. In recent months, this company has launched electric models of Nexon, Tigor, Tiago in the market. Along with this, it has also launched the most popular top selling SUV Tata Punch EV in the market in January. Tata Motors wants that every new product gets a new segment. This will give an opportunity to new customers to adopt EV and this will happen only if the product suits the budget of the common man. Tata first launched Nexon EV
Regarding affordable electric cars, Shailesh Chandra, Managing Director (MD) of Tata Motors, while talking to the media, said that our approach has been that every new product should create a new segment. This will provide an opportunity to new customers to adopt EV. He said that to encourage customers to adopt affordable EV cars, we first brought a Nexon EV. Battery prices for electric cars were at such a level that we could only offer a limited range in a certain segment. The challenge before us was to keep the new EV within the same 25 per cent premium as ICE while meeting the price ceiling conditions. He said that when battery prices came down, we took the first step to increase the range of Nexon. After that, as battery prices came down further, we launched the most affordable product. These also include the lowest priced Tiago EV.
Tata Punch EV launched in the market
Tata Motors MD Shailesh Chandra said that after Nexon and Tiago, we brought Punch EV in the market. We are trying to provide our customers with great options in different body styles through these models. He said that till now we have given one sedan, one hatchback, and two SUVs in the most popular subcompact segment to the customers of our country. We are offering different price points and different body styles for small footprint cars. We have given a range of more than 400 km. It is our endeavor that every new launch makes a difference in increasing the quantity of electric vehicles and there is no decrease in demand.
EV cars will be within the price range of Rs 9 to 25 lakh
Shailesh Chandra further said that our efforts to launch affordable electric cars in the market will continue in future also. As far as their prices are concerned, we will keep these electric cars within the price range of 8.5 lakh to 25 lakh. He said that many cheap electric cars are available in the market in this price range.
Target to sell 1 lakh EV cars in 1 year
He said that in the current calendar year 2024, we had set a target of launching 1 lakh EV cars in the market, but due to many reasons we may fall short of achieving this target. He said that this year we will be able to sell 70,000 and 80,000 EV cars, but our target is that by 2025 we can cross the target of selling 1 lakh units. The charging infrastructure has not expanded at the pace we had expected. He said that the cities which we thought would adopt electric vehicles did not meet our expectations. The policies in some states have not been as per our expectations. All these factors created obstacles in not achieving that 1 lakh target.
