Samsung and Apple capture 58 percent of the global tablet market

New Delhi. Apple to lead the global tablet market after Samsung in the first quarter of 2023 and account for nearly 58 percent of the market despite the changing landscape after the pandemic. Apple shipped 10.8 million tablets in the first quarter with a 35.2 percent share, followed by Samsung with a 23.1 percent share and shipping 7.1 million units.
According to preliminary data from International Data Corporation (IDC), Huawei was in third place with 6.6 percent share (2 million units).
Worldwide tablet shipments are set to decline by 19.1 percent (year-on-year) in the first quarter of 2023, reaching 30.7 million units.
Lower shipment volumes now equal to pre-pandemic levels. Shipment volume in the first quarter of 2023 was comparable to 30.1 million units in the first quarter of 2019 and 31.6 million units in the first quarter of 2018.
Tablet vendors entered the first quarter of 2023 with caution, said Anuina Nataraj, senior research analyst for IDC’s Mobility and Consumer Device Trackers. As expected, both commercial and consumer volumes were down, as the environment remained uncertain during the first quarter.
According to the report, sell-in shipments are expected to remain low in the first half of 2023, as vendors focus on clearing their inventory ahead of the launch of new models.
Chromebook shipments also continued to contract in the first quarter with shipments of 3.8 million units, a decline of 31 percent year-on-year(IANS)
