Samsung & Make in India: Samsung will now make laptops in India, it will help in ‘Make in India’

South Korean multinational conglomerate Samsung is one of the world’s leading technology companies with a strong global presence. Samsung is one of the largest contributors to the Make in India initiative. It is primarily known for manufacturing smartphones locally in the country. It is reported that the South Korean tech giant is now ready to expand its local manufacturing to laptops. It is being said that the company will start producing laptops in India next month. It also has investment plans that will allow it to increase its local manufacturing capacity.

Manufacturing Hub: Samsung has a substantial presence in India, with the company having established itself as an important manufacturing hub. The “Make in India” initiative launched by the Government of India encouraged foreign companies to set up manufacturing units in the country. Samsung took full advantage of this opportunity and started manufacturing smartphones, televisions and other electronic devices in India. This not only helped Samsung reduce production costs but also created thousands of jobs for Indian workers.

Samsung to manufacture laptops at Greater Noida facility

Samsung will start manufacturing laptops in India from next month. Manufacturing will take place at the same Greater Noida facility where it already produces smartphones. The company will expand the facility to accommodate laptop manufacturing. Samsung to begin local laptop production in limited capacity. India is expected to produce 60,000 to 70,000 laptops annually. These numbers are undoubtedly much lower than rivals like HP, Dell and Lenovo. The company is looking to invest Rs 100-200 crore for laptop manufacturing. It is important to note that even though Samsung makes laptops, it is not as big a player in this sector as it is in the smartphone market. It also doesn’t have a wide range of laptop lineup. That’s why its laptop production and investment plans are much smaller than what it is doing for smartphones and tablets. Samsung’s decision to start producing laptops locally is not a surprising move.
