Seat belts will now be mandatory for auto rides in Delhi, Rapido has started the initiative

New Delhi : In India’s capital Delhi, it is now necessary for passengers riding in three wheeler autos to wear seat belts. Bengaluru-based cab aggregator Rapido has taken a unique initiative to install seat belts for rear seat passengers in three-wheelers in Delhi. The company issued a statement on Thursday, August 17, saying that it will install seat belts in over 1,000 auto-rickshaws in the national capital. This initiative by Rapido is aimed at not only increasing the safety of commuters traveling in three wheelers, but also to raise awareness about road safety.
Rapido offers bike-taxi and three-wheeler services
According to media reports, Rapido is a Karnataka-based app-based cab aggregator, which operates in more than 100 cities across India. Established in 2015, the company provides only bike-taxi and three-wheeler services to the customers. The seat belts fitted in Rapido Auto three-wheelers are different from the ones usually fitted inside four-wheelers. Seat belts are like lap belts used in airplanes.
Seat belts will be installed in autos of these areas of Delhi-NCR
As an initiative, Rapido will install seat belts in three-wheelers plying in Delhi-NCR areas such as Malviya Nagar, Saket, Sarojini Nagar, Noida Sector 6, Kaushambi, Greater Noida (Knowledge Park) and Gurugram Sector 30. Rapido will also equip these auto-rickshaws with rain curtains for the rainy season. Pawan Guntupalli, co-founder of Rapido Auto, said that autos in India essentially do not have adequate safety measures to prevent injuries in case of accidents. As a responsible service provider, we believe in bringing change in the sector. He said that apart from Delhi-NCR, this initiative has also been started in other cities like Hyderabad and Bengaluru.
Rapido joins hands with traffic police
Rapido Auto said it has tied up with the city’s traffic police authorities to launch a safety awareness programme. The initiative includes first response training like CPR and basic life support training in case of road accidents. Earlier this month, Rapido also tied up with the Uttar Pradesh Police Department to promote safe driving among two-wheeler riders. As a part of this initiative, the police department distributed over 100 Rapido-branded helmets to the people in Noida. The helmets were ISO certified, meeting stringent quality standards.
Safety of passengers will increase
By making such arrangements in auto rickshaws, the passengers will face less trouble not only during the rainy season but also during extreme cold, heat and storm or storm etc. At the same time, a layer of extra security is added to the seat belt at the time of an accident. This type of initiative was first started in Bengaluru. After this it has been started in Hyderabad and now in Delhi.
