Tata Electronics Semiconductor Plant will provide 72 thousand jobs

Tata Electronics Semiconductor Plant: Tata Sons Chairman N Chandrasekaran on Wednesday said Tata Electronics’ semiconductor plants will cater to all sectors in a phased manner by supplying chips and create about 72,000 jobs in the coming years.

Semiconductor will be used in various fields

Speaking at the foundation stone laying ceremony of Tata Electronics’ proposed Rs 91,000 crore chip manufacturing plant in Dholera, Gujarat, and Rs 27,000 crore chip assembly unit in Assam, Chandrasekaran said that these projects will also be expanded in the future but the initial milestones need to be crossed. This will happen only after. He said the chips manufactured at Tata Electronics plants will meet the needs of various sectors including automotive, power, electronics, consumer and medical.

Tata’s chip plant is capable of producing chips in 28 nanometer (nm) to 110 nanometer nodes.

Tata Group chief Chandrasekaran said, “There is a whole range of areas that require chips. But we cannot produce all types of chips from day one. This will happen in a phased manner but we will serve all sectors. He said that Tata’s chip plant is capable of producing chips in 28 nanometer (nm) to 110 nanometer nodes.
High-technology devices like smartphones and tablets mainly require chips with smaller nodes like 3nm, 7nm and 14nm.

50 thousand jobs in Gujarat and 22 thousand jobs in Assam

Chandrasekaran said that a large number of jobs will be created with the establishment of these plants. “This is just the beginning,” he said. It will expand in future. We are looking for 50,000 jobs here and 20,000-22,000 jobs in the plant in Assam. But it will take time. We will expand it as we cross initial milestones.
Chandrasekaran said that the company is accelerating the chip production timeline.

Target to start chip production by 2026

“Normally it takes about four years to set up a semiconductor plant,” he said. We aim to start chip production in the latter half of calendar year 2026. This work can be done in Assam even earlier. We can also start commercial production in Assam by the end of 2025.”
