Information Technology (IT) company Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) has said that it has won the contract to develop a new version of the government’s public procurement platform ‘Government e-Marketplace’ (GeM). The GeM platform is an online marketplace for public sector undertakings, central and state government bodies to purchase goods and services of common use in a transparent and efficient manner.
GeM Chief Executive Officer (CEO) PK Singh said that GeM in its next avatar is envisioned to be an all-inclusive platform for government procurement. This will promote ease of doing business and transparency. With TCS as our system integration partner, we are confident of helping create a world-class platform with an unmatched experience,” Singh said.
TCS said in a statement that GeM has a gross merchandise value (GMV) of over 65 lakh sellers and service providers, including over eight lakh small and medium enterprises. Here 70,000 buyer organizations have made purchases worth more than two lakh crore rupees. The statement said, in the next six years, there will be a six-fold increase in GMV.
