San Francisco. A new report has revealed that teenagers prefer watching videos on Google-owned YouTube rather than Netflix.

According to a new survey by investment bank Piper Sandler, teenagers in the US spend 28.7 percent of daily video consumption on Netflix and 29.1 percent on YouTube.

The data points reflect YouTube’s dominant position as a free online video provider, especially among youth, and indicate that the streaming industry is becoming more competitive.

The report surveyed more than 9,000 teenagers across America in September this year, whose average age was less than 16 years.

Additionally, the report revealed that TikTok has improved by 38 percent as the preferred social platform among teens, with Snap ranking second and Instagram ranking third.

Nearly 70 percent of teens have used Spotify in the past six months, with 46 percent choosing to subscribe/pay for Spotify.

According to the report, the iPhone continues to dominate as 87 percent of Spotify users own an iPhone and 88 percent expect the iPhone to be their next mobile device.

The report noted that mobile devices remain the number one preferred method for customer service interactions (with 50 percent share).
