WhatsApp launches passwordless login with Passkey on Android

New Delhi . Meta-owned WhatsApp has announced the launch of support for the password-less passkey feature for all Android users.
The move will help WhatsApp users on Android say goodbye to insecure and even two-factor SMS authentication. “Android users can easily and securely log in with a passkey,” the company posted on Twitter late Monday. Only your face, fingerprint or PIN unlocks your WhatsApp account.
Passkey was earlier being tested by WhatsApp in its beta channel, but now it is coming to regular users. There is still no information about support for WhatsApp Passkey on iPhones.
According to the company, Android support will roll out in the coming weeks and months. Passkeys can replace traditional passwords with your device’s own authentication methods.
Apple and Google already support passkeys for their users. Google last week encouraged users to remove passwords from their accounts in favor of Passkey.
To use Passkeys, you simply use a fingerprint, face scan, or PIN to unlock your device, and they’re up to 40 percent faster than passwords, and rely on a type of cryptography that makes them Makes it more secure.
“This is a big step, we know it takes time to understand new technology, so passwords may be for a short period of time,” Google said in a statement.
Google introduced support for Passkeys earlier this year as a simpler and more secure way to sign in to your accounts online, and it’s getting positive feedback. (IANS)
