While hearing the petitions, the Supreme Court said that the possibility of road accidents increases due to liquor shops on the highway. The court said that drunk driving affects the reaction time and decision making ability of drivers. This increases the possibility of accidents.
License is not given to open a wine shop in NH

Some concession to Himachal Pradesh, Meghalaya and Sikkim
Let us tell you that while giving the verdict, the Supreme Court had said that liquor shops should be closed within 500 meters of National and State Highways. Liquor should not be allowed to be served in hotels, restaurants and bars located within this area. The court had exempted only Himachal Pradesh, Meghalaya and Sikkim from this decision in this case, because the population there is less than 20,000. In these states, liquor shops should be kept away from the highway within a radius of 220 meters. This decision was taken by the court in view of the accidents occurring due to drunk driving.
Drink and drive increases the risk of accidents
Drinking and driving significantly increases the chances of road accidents. Alcohol affects drivers’ reaction time and decision-making abilities. This increases the possibility of accidents. Having a wine shop on the National Highway can encourage people to drink and drive. This increases the possibility of road accidents.
